While sellers and some middlemen try to play down the consequences of the illegalities, the demolitions of illegal constructions continue in Mallorca.

In the Agency’s recently submitted 2020 report, it is highlighted that in 2020 the Agency received and processed 191 anonymous complaints. This method represents a substantial change; previously inspectors could denounce, or if it was a private individual, they had to leave their details so that the defendant could find out who had reported them. However, now any neighbor, enemy, walker or anonymous citizen can file a complaint against illegal constructions with the consequences that this may entail for the offender.
As explained in this article from the local press, other records were seen in the number of complaints from administrations, 225, and in the submission of anonymous communications: 174 compared to 138 in 2019, as well as in the stoppage of 96 works in progress, “the highest figure ever”.
In addition, the number of sanctioning and demolitions of illegal constructions in Mallorca and proceedings initiated has also increased, with 228 in 2020 compared to 226 the previous year. However, the “effects of the pandemic have been felt” in the sanctions imposed and in the reinstatement orders issued, affected by the temporary suspension of the processing and resolution deadlines.
With these, a total of 404 demolitions have been executed in the last four years. Moreover, the pace of demolitions continues in 2021, with a further 61 demolitions of illegal constructions in Mallorca having been carried out in the first six months.
